The Bead Lab

Within the next few days, this blog will relaunch as The Bead Lab, a site where I'll share my work and post tutorials on beadwork and polymer clay bead making.

Moving the Studio

Last Saturday was moving day. While my partner and I were looking forward to having our own place, moving involved cleaning out my studio and breaking it down into box-sized pieces, which is never a fun process. Somehow the process of unpacking my studio at our temporary place of residence made it much more difficult to fit every bead and bit of clay neatly back into boxes again this time around. On the bright side, going through everything led me to find some old experimental projects I had set aside and may pick up again.

Now, if I could only find those ring-nosed pliers...

Due to some chaos on the clay manufacturer's end related to new chemical regulations, Premo polymer clay has been inconsistently consistent over the past year or so. The packages I had on hand were of the squishy variety, which makes it very difficult to use for precise techniques like caning. Finally, I decided the best thing to do with squishy Premo was to squish it!

Return to Regular Posting... Hopefully

After a long posting hiatus filled with exciting things like nursing a cat with fatty liver disease back to health (Miko is fine, by the way) and moving to Germany for a year, I'm looking forward to updating this again. I've got some fun pieces coming out of the studio and many more ideas bouncing around in my head that need to come out before I go mad. I'm also helping a troop of Girl Scouts this year with their jewelry badges, so I have plenty to keep busy with, but I'll try to make time to post some pictures. It's good to be back.
