An Old Project

This is my first bead embroidered necklace.  I made it for a friend for her wedding.  Due to the excitement of the event, I forgot to take proper pictures of it at the time.  She took it out for me a few weeks ago to get some snapshots for my records.

Unfortunately I didn't have the best lens or lighting available at the time, but I'm happy I have pictures of this piece now.

Materials: Seed beads and Swarovski pearls and crystals.  The base material is Lacy's Stiff Stuff.

I drew inspiration from the bodice of her wedding dress, resulting in a design with a lot of floral motifs.

The centerpiece is a beaded flower created using peyote stitch.

Beads in the News (2/14/15)

Here's a couple beady things happening in the world:

One bead at a time, woman finishes latest piece

The Sun Sentinel featured a piece on bead artist Robin Eisenberg.  Seeing her completed triptych panel makes me want to warp the loom.

Mardis Gras bead art dazzles the community

With Fat Tuesday approaching, most of the beads in the news have to do with Mardi Gras celebrations.  Here's a story about Stephan Wagner, a New Orleans artist who uses recycled Mardi Gras beads as a medium.

'Tis the Season for Shiny Objects

It's that time of year again.

Tip: If it's aqua, it's a Grandma project.

I made earrings to match.

I started playing around with some glass pearls and created a right-angle-weave base, then kept embellishing until it felt right.

These Christmas projects are also excellent justification for my extensive bead stash.

I wish there had been more sunlight, but it was a rather gloomy day.

Here's the set tucked into its batting before wrapping it up and heading to the family Christmas party.
